Couple looking at each other in traditional Korean clothes in Seoul during the Coronavirus outbreak

Why don’t you chase your dreams? When it comes to chasing our dreams and attaining our goals, we all have a closet full of excuses. I’m always hearing things like, “I don’t have the time”, or “I’m not smart/talented enough”. STOP THE NONSENSE! I understand attaining success is easier said than accomplished, but most of us give up before even trying! Instead of putting our nose to the grindstone, believing, and succeeding, we convince ourselves that trying is a bad idea. Well, I’m not going to let you be your own worst enemy. It’s time to wake up, and get to work!

Why you don’t Chase your Dreams:

“I Don’t Have the Time to Chase my Dreams”

Was every single hour of your day productive and conducive to your goals? The answer is likely no. Yet time, and time again we use this as an excuse. Time could literally slap us in the face and we wouldn’t change our actions. Why? Because most of us are not willing to put in the effort it takes to create change. “But Annette, you don’t understand, I really do want to __________”. I hear you, but do you want it enough? Because when you want something, and I mean really want something, you don’t let anything get in your way.

When Daniel and I sold all of our stuff to travel the world (read why here), we were working full-time and Daniel was still going to school. We made time to pick up extra babysitting gigs. We made the time to put up all of our stuff on the internet. It was important to us. Chasing our dreams was our priority.

If there is no time, you make time! The sooner you stop making excuses for yourself, the sooner you will get to living the life you want to live.

“I Don’t Know What I Want to Do with my Life”

Can I be real for a second? Most of us don’t. I know people in their 50’s who are still looking for their niche. You may not know what you want, but you’re sure as hell not going to find out by remaining stagnant. Try volunteering for different organizations that match your interests. What you love isn’t just going to come and sit on your lap. You need to go looking for it!

“I’m Not Smart Enough to Chase my Dreams”

Einstein said it best, “if you judge a goldfish by its ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life thinking it’s stupid”. Whether you feel this way because school was just not your forte, or because you feel like you keep failing, it’s okay. Did you know that Thomas Edison’s educators said, he was “too stupid to learn anything”? He had drive, and a clear vision of where he was going. You are also capable of greatness. But first, you have to try.

“I’m Already Established in My Field”

So let me get this straight: Because you wasted 5-10 years of your life studying/working a field you hate, you’re going to waste another 30-40 years doing the same thing because you don’t want to start over? What good is being “established” if you’re not happy (Find the secret to happiness here)? You don’t get a do-over at this thing we call life. Put your big boy/girl/other panties on, and create your own future!

“I’m Afraid to Fail”

I go into much more detail HERE… but it’s okay to be scared! Chasing your dreams is scary! What’s not okay is letting those fears stop you. You’re right to think that on your way to success you’re going to encounter failure. And then guess what? You’re probably going to fail again. It’s important to remember that with each failure you grow wiser, stronger, and closer to your dreams!

The first step is always the hardest. Are you going to take it?
