Family Zen House Boutique Hotel in Pai Thailand

*Updated: April 2019

Have you been wondering how to keep your house clean and organized? Having a cluttered home can be frustrating, and also very overwhelming. There are times when I’ve looked at my house and said, “There is NO way I’m going to get this clean today”. After overseeing the Housekeeping department as a profession, I became a little OCD about my own space! I systemized the way I clean my home so it stays that way longer. If you’re looking to keep your house clean and organized, you’ve come to the right place! These are the top five things I changed to immediately see a difference in my home.

How to Keep Your House Clean and Organized

  1. Have optimal organization to keep your home clean

My mom always got on to me when I was little about the importance of having my drawers and closet organized. I didn’t understand her until I realized that the reason why my house was so cluttered was because nothing had “its place”. It’s hard to put things away when you don’t know where to put them! It’s even worse when you put it away in a random location just to keep it out of site. What if you forget where you put it? Start with smaller spaces like drawers, cabinets, and closets. These spaces are the most help because they keep things out of sight and easy to find.

  1. Have appropriate cleaning supplies on hand

I live in a townhome and there is little I hate more than having to go downstairs for something I need. I know it takes like two seconds, but I’m simply just not about it. This caused my upstairs bedroom to not be clean for months! Embarrassing, I know, but it’s the truth! To combat that, I always keep a bottle of glass cleaner, disinfectant wipes, a trash bag, and a duster in every single room of my house. This means that even for smaller messes, I am able to clean them up quickly and keep the place nice.

  1. Don’t procrastinate

It is much easier to keep a space clean than it is to get it clean. When you do the dishes while you’re cooking, and pick up after yourself as soon as you get home. You can have a clean house in 10 minutes, instead of waiting to have to dedicate a whole eight-hour day on your weekend. You could have gone to the beach instead! Think about that!

  1. Make a cleaning schedule

If cleaning is something that is just way beyond your scope of manageability, create a schedule to keep you on track with much smaller, attainable goals. Doing a little each day will help with your home’s condition in the long run and keep you accountable.

  1. Get rid of what you don’t want to stay organized

Americans are notorious for having TONS of stuff they don’t need. Remember that ice cream maker that you registered for, but never used? GET RID OF IT. When you remove those things that are wasting space, you’re making more space for the things you will love and use. Also, whenever you move, you won’t have to lug boxes of crap you don’t really like anymore. You can also make some extra cash on the side!! Need help deciding what to get rid of, we wrote a whole post about how we sold everything we owned to travel the world here. Want to know how we got rid of it quickly, read here!
